Why Women in AI Matter: How to Close the Gender Productivity Gap

Updated: Oct 16

As October marks Women in AI Month, it’s a great time to explore how women entrepreneurs can embrace artificial intelligence (AI) to boost productivity, maintain authenticity, and foster creativity.

In a recent episode of High Vibe Table Talks, Merchon Hargrave sat down with AI expert and founder of Feel Good Social and Authentic AI, Kinsey Soderberg, to discuss the impact AI can have on women-led businesses.

To learn more about Kinsey's practical tips for integrating AI into your business and how it can work for you, listen to the full episode of High Vibe Table Talks on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music or watch on YouTube.

AI is not just a tool for productivity—it’s a key to unlocking a more balanced, authentic, and creative business journey.

Kinsey's insights, combined with her years of experience helping entrepreneurs enhance their online presence, highlight the transformative power AI holds, particularly for women. Below are some key takeaways from our conversation and why AI is an essential tool for women entrepreneurs today.

Why Women Should Embrace AI

While AI has become an integral part of many industries, there is still a noticeable gender gap in its adoption. Kinsey pointed out that men are twice as likely as women to use the top AI tools. This disparity could widen the income gap if women don’t embrace the productivity-enhancing benefits that AI offers.

AI tools, like ChatGPT, can save up to 70 hours per month in content creation and administrative tasks. For women entrepreneurs, who often juggle multiple roles, the ability to reclaim that time is invaluable. Rather than just squeezing in more work, AI can provide more balance, allowing time for personal rest, growth, and creativity.

Kinsey’s message is clear: women need to be proactive in adopting AI to stay competitive and ensure their voices are represented in future AI models.

Maximizing AI for Authenticity and Brand Building

One of the common misconceptions about AI is that it produces inauthentic, robotic content. Kinsey dispels this myth, explaining how entrepreneurs can "train" AI to reflect their brand's unique voice and identity. She likens AI to an intern who needs guidance:

"You want ChatGPT to know about your brand’s core identity, your ideal customers, and your brand’s personality, voice, and writing style."

Kinsey recommends using formula prompts to maintain consistency in tone and style across content, from Instagram captions to blog posts. By customizing AI tools to your business needs, you can ensure that the authenticity of your brand is never compromised.

Boosting Productivity While Preserving Creativity

The time-saving potential of AI tools is staggering. By using AI for repetitive or time-consuming tasks, you free up mental space for more creative, strategic work. Kinsey shared her personal experiences, explaining how AI cut her content creation time from hours to minutes:

"When I crunched the numbers, I found out that I save like 3 hours a day, 15 hours a week, and up to 70 hours a month using AI tools."

This shift allows women entrepreneurs to work smarter, not harder, and to reinvest time in higher-level tasks—or simply in rest and self-care. As Kinsey and Merchon discussed in the podcast, AI isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing what matters most, more efficiently.

Bridging the Gender Productivity Gap

Beyond individual benefits, Kinsey emphasized the broader societal impact of women embracing AI. AI models are shaped by the data they receive. If women don’t actively engage with AI tools, future AI models may fail to adequately represent their needs, experiences, and perspectives.

By adopting AI, women can contribute to the development of more inclusive technologies and bridge the productivity gap that has historically favored men. This ensures that women's experiences are not just reflected but actively influence the evolution of AI.

Breaking Down Psychological Barriers

For many women, there’s a psychological barrier to using AI. Kinsey acknowledged that some women may feel guilty, as though they are cutting corners by using AI tools. However, she reframed AI as a legitimate, productivity-enhancing resource rather than a shortcut:

"When men use AI tools, they’re seen as productive and innovative. But when women use AI tools, they may feel guilty, like they’re cutting corners."

By shifting the mindset around AI, women can feel empowered to use these tools without guilt and fully leverage their benefits.

Women, AI, and the Future

Kinsey Soderberg's work reminds us that AI is not here to replace human creativity or authenticity but to enhance it. By training AI tools to reflect their unique brand voices, women entrepreneurs can produce content that is not only faster but also resonates more deeply with their audiences.

AI’s productivity benefits allow women to spend more time focusing on what truly matters—whether that’s growing their business, enjoying personal time, or fostering creativity. And as more women engage with AI, they help shape the future of this technology, ensuring that it serves diverse voices and needs.

This Women in AI Month, let’s take a cue from Kinsey and encourage more women to embrace AI—helping to close the gender productivity gap and making sure women's perspectives are woven into the fabric of AI’s future. Together, we can ensure that AI remains a tool for inclusion, equity, and progress.
